This is an Yves Saint Laurent luxurious deep purple wine velvet skirt and jacket ensemble from the early 1980's. YSL continued to be inspired by Russian Czar era clothing and the Ballet Russes. He incorporated modern elements and tweaked this design to make it more contemporary.

This 2 piece skirt suit has a softly pleated skirt and mandarin collar jacket. The jacket has the classic YSL round buttons up the front and on the sleeves, and gathered modified leg of mutton sleeves.

The skirt hits just below the knee and has side slit pockets. It closes with a side zipper and YSL signature hook and eyes. Both pieces are made of fine cotton viscose velvet, and are fully lined.

The jacket is labeled a size 40 and the skirt is labeled a size 42 and both pieces have the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Paris made in France label.
